Christmas round-up

P21

It has been a busy autumn and winter for us with lots of client work, sales and happy analog moments! Work includes Arp 2600, xpander, Clavinet D6, Roland SH-101, Roland Rs-202, Rhodes restoration, Solton SM-100, A few Nord:s and more...

We've been working on custom Analog Sweden products which will fit your everyday use and I'm sure you'll love. Coming February 2012, more info soon.

We had Dj:s Marcus Schössow, Henrik B and Pablo O for a nice visit in the studio where we fulfilled long time dreams of playing the minimoog through a re-201 space echo and playing the Roland Jupiter 8. Henrik B, who is besides being a Dj and producer, is also an analog addict. We had a cool jam session, and who knows what the future might bring? Marcus Schössow who usually only uses a computer has recently produced an album using hardware only, including a Moog Voyager, quote -"Making patches on hardware is definitely more fun". I can nothing but agree.

We're on Christmas holiday from 14th of dec to early January. You can still reach us, but response times might be longer.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and an Analog New Year :)

FALQ Rhodes and CP70 jamming with Colonel Red - jazzfunk

No, he's not actually in the studio. We're working on a remix to thehttp://www.tokyodawn.net/colonel_red-remix_contest/

FALQ is Fredrik Segerfalk on the Rhodes Mk1 with a suitcase preamp routed through a Roland CE-1 chorus. Q-force on camera and Yamaha CP70m. We're working on an EP to be released in 2012 recreating the 70s jazzfunk sound.

Sound design & music services

WARNING! No vintage content! ;) I have worked with sound design & music since the late 80:s where I started off with the Commodore 64 and did music for Shadow of the Beast and Blood Money to name a few. Recently I did a test on a soundless clip which I found on youtube by the very talented animator James Ford of Ford Studios I hope you enjoy it! Disclaimer: No cats were harmed during the production!

And time passes by...

...and I've really not prioritized the blog. Maybe that's stupid. You tell me!

We have done a lot of work recently, and I'm going to share most of it. Here's an Oberheim Xpander that needed love. One output and a cv jack was broken and the battery needed to go. The Xpander is really beautiful inside and easy to work on - just a few screws and then hood up the lid. Battery was changed to a battery holder for a CR2032 coin cell battery so the user can change it himself - no need to solder. I didn't have to play around with it though... many machines waiting for attention. Finishing up a Yamaha CS-60 which has been here for far too long, but unfortunately it is hard to find certain custom parts :(

See ya soon with Clavinets, Rhodes, RS-202 and usual spaceships CS-80, ARP 2600 and more getting loove!

The Eight Voices of Tom (Oberheim)

8 voices of tom - Oberheim Eight Voice by AnalogSweden

Busy month with my daughter starting day care, getting the evil viruses home and knocking the family down. So, not much time for work, unfortunately! But with all the hype on the upcoming Tom Oberheim SO4V - Son of 4 voice - I thought I'd post a sound clip from a live tweaking on the Oberheim Eight voice in our studio. Enjoy :)

We're back, and have a 303 compo winner!

Winner

I must admit that the response on the compo to make a cover of Also sprach Zarathustra or An der schönen blauen donau (lead themes for 2001) on a TB-303 or X0Xb0X wasn't massive. In fact we only got one submission, but that we salute. It wasn't a simple task :D

Kroffe, a fellow synth repair dude and musician from Stockholm, Sweden submitted the version Richard Strauss would never have expected.

Congratulations to the first prize! A couple of printouts from the previous post is on its way to you.

2001 and 303 equals compo!

303_acid_odyssey
Ok, this is nerdy shit. Have you read Arthur C. Clarkes 2001? Seen the movie? If not, do it immediately and then get back here.

After a some mails on the analogue heaven mailing list I just got the urge to do this. The conversation started about the possibility of reverse engineering the TB-303 CPU, because it is not available anymore. Then the discussion turned to how many different patterns would be possible to program on the 303. I will not bore you with the details, but here are the last mails that led to the making of the picture above:

"37 possible notes:
each note can have neither accent or slide +37
each note can be accented +37
each note can be "slid" + 37
each note can have both accent and slide +37
each note can be a rest +1

If I'm right about that, then for 16th note patterns the total possible
variations is the sum of: 149 ^patternLength
where patternLength is 1-16"

"To me this looks correct. If you calculate this it would add up to a staggering 5.9*1034 possibilities!!!"

"According to recent articles there are only 3 x 1023 stars in the Universe."

"The 303 is certainly a universe of its own"

"it's full of stars"

....
Crazy Compo time!

Make a cover of Also sprach Zarathustra or An der schönen blauen donau (lead themes for 2001) on a TB-303 or X0Xb0X and win a printout of he picture :) The best five will win, decided by me alone. Send your submission to info at analogsweden dot com Effects and outboard is allowed!, but only 303 soundz please.

Competition time!

So, what could this be? Chances are that if you're visiting this blog, you certainly recognize the legend and layout. But what is it? No, it's not a t-shirt, and to make it even harder, it's not the actual end product that is shown in the picture ;)
It will hit the market early 2011. Send your guess to info at analogsweden com, and you can win the product.

Terms:
The winner will be announced in december 2010. Your mail address will not be sold or given away etc, but we might use it to send you info related to Analog Sweden. If I've told you what it is before, you're not allowed to participate. You know who you are ;)

After work jam with the 303 & 606

The client had a TB-303 which did not work well when then Sync-cable was inserted. Intermittent jack was the problem.
Fixed the flakey din-sync jack by unsoldering, removing the clear plastic protective cap, and cleaning the corroded switch. Take good care of this jack, because you wont find a new one. Normally the 303 plays from the internal clock. When a sync cable is inserted it activates a switch that changes the sync to "in"-modes. If this jack breaks it has to be replaced with a normal jack, and then add an in/out-switch.

Also replaced an intermittent tact switch. A 303 with bad switches is no fun at all. Played it with the 606 and now it jams again :)
